Everyone connected with the sport of
rowing has a duty of care
The Amateur Rowing
Association has a duty to:
 |
Provide guidance and rules which
dictate a safe background to the sport.

 |
Monitor incidents and accidents to
highlight trends, dangerous situations and practices.
|
 |
Provide advice and rule reviews based
upon its
findings. |
 |
Educate its clubs and membership in
providing safe activities.
|
The
Regional Rowing Councils have a duty to:
 |
Monitor safety in
their Regions and act on unsafe
practices. |
 |
Provide advice and
support on safety issues to their member
clubs. |
 |
Help clubs to
assess risk and audit their compliance with the ARA Water Safety
Code. |
Rowing
Clubs & Event Organisers have a duty
to:
 |
Assess and reduce
the risks involved in their activities - to their members,
participants, and other water users and to the general
public. |
 |
Provide safe
premises and equipment (including vehicles and trailers), for their
activities and members on both water and land.

 |
Actively respond
to the Water Safety Code and the Rules of the ARA.
|
 |
Provide their
membership with guidance and training in safe practices.
|
 |
Review their
practices and advice to members in the light of incidents, accidents
and directives from the ARA or Regional Rowing Council.
|
Individual Members have a duty to:
 |
Act in a manner that will not going to
compromise the safety of themselves, other members, other water
users, or the general public.
|
 |
Assess risks and
take reasonable decisions as to courses of action to be taken.
|
 |
Actively respond to their club’s safety
rules. |
 |
Be proactive in warning others of
impending
danger. |
 |
Inform coaches and other crew/club
members of any medical condition that may present a risk to
themselves or their crew. In the case of juniors, parents have a
duty to advise those in charge.

Launch Training to RYA 2 Training days are planned for both experienced (1 years
driving) and inexperienced, the course’s can be arranged to suit, either
weekends (not in the summer) and mid week. The Region Council will contribute to the training as long as the Club
supports the applicant, resulting in a small charge for a really
worthwhile certificate. Experienced drivers have a one day course and the inexperienced driver
take two days. Interested parties contact
